A special film exhibition that highlights the stories of women who have rewritten history as influential icons of their era. Despite the fact that some women have made revolutionary accomplishments that transformed history and people’s lives, many women and their stories are not properly documented and so are often forgotten; their feminist views were also overlooked. However, recently there has been a rise in biographical films of women that shed light on their amazing accomplishments, which were in part due to their awareness of their identities as women. Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story is a documentary about Hedy LAMARR, a top Hollywood actress in from the 40s who invented CDMA technology, which is considered to be the basis of wi-fi. This inventor is an iconic figure who not only revolutionized our lives, but also had the courage to overcome misogyny and prejudices against women at that time. Director KIM So-young’s SF Drome: JU Se-juk is an experimental film that chronicles the journey of JU Se-juk, a revolutionary independence activist who was erased from history because she was a woman and a socialist. The faceless, joint-less doll representing JU Se-juk symbolizes how there are many parts to her story that are missing, waiting to be filled in. The film drama Becoming Astrid portrays the youth of Astrid LINDGREN, the author of Pippi Longstocking. The film persuasively depicts how her youth, during which she was determined to reject marriage and raise her child by herself despite the numerous prejudices and hardships, created the iconic Astrid LINDGREN—author of children’s literature consisting of a strong, independent female individual as protagonists. Both RBG—a film charting the accomplishments of Ruth Bader GINSBURG, a Justice of the U.S Supreme Court who created history—American judicial history—and became a feminist meme by asserting progressive perspectives in a male-dominated world, and Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami—a film about the performances of Grace JONES, Jamaican-American singer, actress, and pioneer of gender bending—will be screened as well. This section will truly be a heart-racing and empowering cinematic experience that will allow the audience to connect with iconic women who overcame the limits of their time.
