Sponsored by the unwavering support from the Ock Rang Cultural Foundation, ‘Documentary Ock Rang Award’, a documentary production support program founded in 2002, which has supported female documentary directors capture diverse perspectives and voices of women through alternative viewpoint and sensibility. Since the 12th SIWFF in 2010, the award was reorganized as the documentary section of Pitch & Catch. Projects selected through preliminary rounds are provided mentoring and LAB training programs. The pitch-judging panel selects the best pitch during the festival. Total of 18 recipients of the Award since its commencement has explored diverse subject matter such as labor, family, LGBT, women’s bodies and everyday life. The winning documentaries include Waiting for Spring (JUNG Sue-yeon); A Wedding Gift (YI Choung-hwa); Life Goes On (RYU Mi-rye); Umma (Mother) (JOUNG Ho-hyun,); Shocking Family (Kyungsoon); We Are Not Defeated (LEE Hye-ran); OUT: Smashing Homophobia Project (Feminist Video Activist Collective WOM); 3XFTM (KIM Il-rhan); The Time of Our Lives (HONG Ji-you, HAN Young-hee); REDMARIA (Kyungsoon); 2 Lines (Ji-min); Wandering Stars (LEE Suk-gyung); The Empire of Shame (HONG Li-gyeong); Glittering Hands (LEE Kil-bora); Holy Working Day (LEE Hee-won); Host Nation (LEE Ko-woon); For Vagina’s Sake (KIM Bo-ram); and Face, the Other Side (LEE Sun-hee). Among the past winners, the 20th SIWFF presents five documentaries to reconfirm the remarkable achievements made by the courageous and relentless female documentary filmmakers.
