SYNOPSIS

Is the movie star Jodie Foster a lesbian? If so, is she a butch or a femme? Rumors surrounding Foster¡¯s sexual orientation are increasing. The film takes a light-hearted look at the iconization of the star, not only as somebody with whom lesbians can identify but also an as an object of worship and praise. The film shows, too, that the phenomenon has crossed the Atlantic, with British lesbians, like their American counterparts, viewing Foster¡¯s major films through a distinctly queer perspective.
The film examines the meaning and status of Jodie Foster as an icon of the lesbian community by interweaving scenes from films in which she starred and interviews with her fans, queer critics, film critics, and other actors. Jodie: An Icon shows how one cultural minority group actively takes possession of a certain star as their icon. (Kwon Eun-Sun)
