SYNOPSIS

Based on director¡¯s own experience of pregnancy and delivery, Small Treasures deals with a variety kinds of feelings caused by pregnancy, such as joy, fear, responsibility, pain and sadness. In the film, we see Jane and her husband¡¯s emotional changes during and after pregnancy, reflected in shifts in background hospital-the ocean, the pregnancy classes, the house, the zoo, the hospital. The director shows how differently woman and man react to pregnancy and subtly emphasizes the need for the couple¡¯s mutual responsibility in raising children.
It has been said that if men have war, women have childbirth. Jane agrees, calling pregnancy and delivery a war in which there are heroes, cowards and casualties. Though there are no medals, this is a war with a female army who can talk about pain, joy, sadness and life and support each other. (Kim Hyun-Sook)
