This film was made while Varda was pregnant with her first daughter, as she visited the streets of La Mouffe on a daily basis and constructed the film utilizing footage taken during her visits. L’Opera-Mouffe is divided into smaller segments entitled ‘Lovers’, ‘Drunkenness’ ‘Holidays’, ‘Old Age’, ‘Craving’, as it captures the process of life itself through metaphorical images and irrational symbolic representations, along with diversified introspection on absurdities of daily behavior. The result is an actualization by an expecting mother on the bleak nature of her everyday life, that life is in fact nothing but poverty and a process of aging. (Joo You-Shin)
