SYNOPSIS
Rise reveals contemporary Afghan reality through a delicate interweaving of footage shot by RAWA under the Taliban, footage of Afghanistan shot by a hidden camera after the September 11 attacks in USA, and voiceovers by some RAWA members. The movie uses subtitles to introduce the history of the Afghan war, the conditions of women in that history, and their struggle to make changes. The voice of a RAWA member tells of the suffering of Afghan women and calls for global solidarity to overcome the problems. (Kim Sun-ah)

Program Associate at WITNESS, which advances human rights advocacy through the use of video and communications technology. At WITNESS, Ronit Avni works with NGOs from around the world, to assist them in identifying ways to use video and the Internet to promote their advocacy goals. Co-produced short videos and online advocacy features including: Refuge?, The Soul Eaters and Palestinian Arab Citizens of Israel: A Case Study in Discrimination. Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Vassar College and acquired a DEC in Professional Theatre Studies from Dawson College in Montreal.
