SYNOPSIS

Perhaps the most difficult thing in life is to invest one¡¯s trust and dedication to something as complex as love and marriage. Committed is a heart-warming comedy about a young woman who carries through her pledge of love and devotion to the one she loves. The film examines the meaning of love, marriage and self-identity. To Joline, the young owner of a hard rock club, marriage is more than sacred. A ring-shaped tattoo on her finger represents her vow of lifelong devotion to the conventional signification of the wedding ring. Her life takes a drastic turn when her husband disappears with only a note left to confirm his departure. Unable to accept her husband¡¯s decision, she sets off on a journey to find him. But when she does, in the desolate prairies of Texas, it only makes matters worse. Despite her husband¡¯s rejection, Joline decides to become her husband¡¯s shadow, to ¡®protect¡¯ him, a gesture of either stupidity or courage.
Heather Graham, who starred in Boogie Nights and Austin Powers 2, gives a great performance as the hard-headed Joline. Through Joline, the filmmaker seems to be suggesting that a higher level of devotion can only be achieved when one finds oneself. The vast Texan horizons set against the outcrops of cactus are eye-catching. (Nam In-young)
