Anam, a Turkish immigrant to Germany, is a housewife and mother of two who also earns a living by working as a janitor. Her life falls apart when she witnesses her husband caught in the act with a white co-worker of hers. To make matters worse, she discovers her son Deniz to be a serious drug addict. Despite her desperate plea for him to return home, Deniz runs off. From this point, she struggles to maintain a household without her husband and son, with only her daughter and herself to rely on, and begins to search for her son in an unfamiliar territory of drugs and crime.
 In this impressive debut feature by Turkish female filmmaker, Buket Alakus, the focus is on the strong and thoughtful endeavors of Anam, who challenges the various ordeals that threaten herself, her home, her work, her identity and the various relationships she makes. If her friendships with German Rita and the black Didi give spirit to the film, the ‘pseudo mother-daughter relationship’ between Anam and Deniz’s drug addict girlfriend, Mandy, and Mandy’s death, reverberate in ways that one cannot help but take seriously.
