SYNOPSIS

Peace by Peace: Women on the Frontlines portrays the women who fight for peace in politically troubled areas in the post-Cold War era, places such as Afghanistan, Bosnia, Argentina, Burundi, and New York. They include a teacher who is devoted to educating women in Afghanistan, a woman leader of unemployed laborers who runs in the presidential elections in Argentina in support of participatory democracy, women who run a broadcasting station for peace in Burundi, and women who got actively involved in anti-war movement after losing family 9-11.
Lisa Hepner, the director, celebrates these women who commit themselves everyday to establishing peace in territories torn apart by war and violence. Moreover, interpolating historical documents and interviews, she attempts to view and contextualize the political conflicts and peace movements experienced by women human rights activists from both the local and global perspectives. The most touching and impressive element of this film is the vivid voices of women who keep struggling and fighting for peace. (Kwon Eun-sun)
