SYNOPSIS
How many people recall a male instead of a female when they hear the word, ‘mermaid’? Why is it that in the English language-where ‘man’ is affixed to words more often-mermaid is more dominantly used than merman? Is this because the mermaid myth is one devised by self-indulgent men? This film is a humorous subversion of such mythologies.

Joan Ashworth studied Animation at the National Film and Television School graduating in 1987 with her short film The Web, which was shown at film festivals worldwide winning the Mari Kuttna Prize for Best British Animation 1987 and was broadcast on Channel 4. After graduating, she co-founded “3 Peach Animation” through which she directed many commercials, title sequences and stings for TV and cinema including the opening titles for Tim Burton’s Batman. Currently, she is Head of the Animation Department at London’s Royal College of Art.
