SYNOPSIS
In the wake of the1997 announcement banning licensed prostitution, Taipei citizens engage in a heated debate. Numerous scholars and women organizations take different sides, with some supporting legalization and the rights of the sex workers, and others championing the government’s hardline stance.
On the frontlines criticizing the new law are many of the sex workers themselves, protesting for their right to work. Licensed Prostitutes Apocalypse documents the lives of three such women, how they entered the business and how their opinions contrast. One woman feels she is being persecuted by the government and we see her and her colleagues screaming, “Why should I be blamed? I do not want any support from the government. Let me work.” Another woman featured is tired of prostitution and ready to move on with her life. Licensed Prostitutes Apocalypse is an honest depiction of both sides of this delicate subject.

Tsai Tsung-lung has worked in various positions for newspapers, magazines and television from 1992 to 2000. Since 2000, he has worked as a documentary producer at the News Department of Public Television Service. His award-winning documentaries include Formosa Homicide Chronicle (2001), A Talk With Whales (2002), Behind the Miracle (2002) and My Imported Wife (2003).
