Why does Superman only appear when one is in a perilous situation? And how is it there is no Superwoman? In The Amazing Amazons the female superheroes (Superwomen) fly around the sky, saving a suppressed feminist magazine from censorship and bringing the evil profiteers of AIDS vaccines to justice. Unlike the supernaturally powered male superheroes, these female superheroes tackle relationship and cultural issues to strive for a “new, harmonious world.” A combination of live action and animation, this experimental piece is an imaginative and explosive mixture of politics and justice, absurdity and wit.
