SYNOPSIS

The second co-production by director Jang Hee-sun and the Korean Women Workers Associations, following Jae-hee¡¯s Story About Sexual Harassment at the Workplace, their first collaboration. This collaboration between a feminist activist group and a professional filmmaker (or a filmmaking group) fulfills the very intent of WFFIS¡¯ Feminist Film and Video Activism: helping feminist movement groups communicate with larger audiences through the medium of filmmaking.
Friendly & Harmonious consists of four episodes. Each episode presents an episode of sexual harassment/violence in various labor sectors, from the office to the gas station where many teenage girls work. Power over sex creates both assailants and victims in any and all workplaces, with most of the victims women who are relegated to the lower rungs of the power structure. This film gathers all four episodes together to emphasize the point that viewing women as sexual objects must cease in order to make workplaces ¡®friendly & harmonious¡¯. As the first installment Jae-hee¡¯s Story on the Sexual Harassment at Workplace did, Friendly & Harmonious guides each story to the universal problem that women endure under the oppression of patriarchy. Through this quartet of stories, the film persuades audiences - even women who have not yet realized they are treated as ¡®second-class citizens¡¯ - to not only recognize the sexist structure of a patriarchal society but also tackle it.
