SYNOPSIS

Betty and Stan¡¯s marriage is at a dead end. They eat together and sleep in the same bed, but dead air separates them like a wall. One day, an unexpected breakthrough results when Betty discovers she has moustache and Stan is absorbed by embroidery. Subverting gender roles by depicting a ¡®woman¡¯s moustache¡¯ and a ¡®man¡¯s embroidery¡¯, director Vicki Sugars reveals in hilarious ways how fragile the compulsory binary structures of gender and sexuality really are.     Born in Adelaide on December 15, 1960, Sugars worked as an assistant director for many years. She is currently adapting a Louis de Berni?res story, Labels, to animation and has a feature in development with the South Australian Film Corporation. Moustache is her directing debut.
