SYNOPSIS
A music video by video artist LiM Min-ouk, is based on a piece that he produced in Haja Center\'s video workshop for teens. In the piece, one girl raps on top of a truck, which appears suspended in a floating urban space - matching the beats of a drum performance. Through a probing and incisive gaze, the video investigates the dilapidated space of Yeongdeungpo, where the ghost of the developing nation \"New Town\" appears in and out of view, and the \"capitalist flower\" of a department store that lures passer-bys. Through lyrics that are both oppositional and self-reflexive, and a powerful singing voice, the video describes a 20-year-old girl’s peculiar relationship to this space. Through New Town Ghost, we catch a glimpse of the formation of one girl’s progressive and oppositional subjectivity. (KWON Eun-sun)

LIM Min-ouk was born in Dae-jeon in 1968 and graduated from the Universite Pantheon Sorbonne in 1995, majoring in Formative Arts. His artistic activities include the container project SCRAP in 2004 and the Adolescence Symptom project of Rodin Gallery in 2006. New Town Ghost is the hip hop music video based on his experiences as artistic director at Haja Center, Seoul Yooth Factory of Alternative Culture.
