SYNOPSIS

A documentary that closely follows one Singaporean man\'s 5-day trip to a marriage broker in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to find a bride. Billeted together at a hostel provided by a marriage broker, the Vietnamese women, many of whom are from the countryside, display themselves everyday, like mannequins in a store window, to prospective grooms. Even after being proposed by a man, however, they have to undergo a medical examination to certain that their hymens are intact. As a result of the cool and collected manner in which the director portrays this inhumane process, we are able to suppress our rising anger and direct our questions towards the wiles of capital which compromise both the true meaning of marriage and ultimately inflict harm on both men and women. (Billy Choi)
