Bi-sang, a seven-year-old bed-wetter, lives alone with his mother Yang-nan who has not stepped foot outside the house since Bi-sang’s father went missing. One day, their seemingly peaceful lives are rudely interrupted. Neighborhood housewife comes and insists that they should agree to the proposed development of the area, while her husband’s backpack announces his death. Like chickens that cannot fly, Yang-nan realizes that nothing can be solved by hiding in a pen and takes Bi-sang on a picnic. The film sets off from the imaginary premise that humans were once able to fly and ends with the themes of coming of age, and overcoming trauma, complacency, and challenge. Rather than Bisang, the person who actually grows in the film is Yang-nan, who had locked herself up and had been living like a chicken. (Jay SOHN)
