Because gay marriage is illegal in the USA, gay people cannot insist upon any legal rights in their relationships. Brooklyn’s long-term life partner ends up in the hospital after a car accident but she cannot hear about her partner’s condition from the doctors nor even see her partner because she is not a ‘family’ member. Through Brooklyn’s struggle and that of her son Jordan, this film reveals the violence of a homophobic society and depicts the possibility of an alternative conception of family. (Jay SOHN)
