SYNOPSIS

Set on Christmas Eve and the day of Christmas, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, this film unfolds the story three women from Cologne, Germany, who met each other by chance; Italian-German Francesca, her 17 year-old sister Antonietta, and retired Gelinde. Antonietta ran away from home on Christmas Eve to Rotterdam for joining her favorite rock band and her sister Francesca, a taxi driver, drives to Rotterdam to find her. That night the truck of the rock band and Antonietta hits Gelinde¡¯s car and runs away. On the road, Francesca finds wounded Gelinde in her crashed car and takes her to the hospital, which ends up with their traveling together to Rotterdam. Gelinde is suffering from an affair with a married woman, Ingel, who spends Christmas together with her own family instead of Gelinde and Francesca falls in love with Gelinde feeling sympathy for her. Meanwhile, Antonietta runs into Gelinde at the train station in Rotterdam. Gelinde notices Antonietta¡¯s pregnancy and tells her that Francesca is looking for her. Later, they all meet in a bar where the rock band plays, then they all head back to Cologne by Francesca¡¯s taxi. Antonietta asks Gelinde what is worth living for. And her answer is that just being itself is valuable enough to lead a life. Three women in their 10s, 20s, and 50s, a pregnant straight girl, and two lesbians, have different trauma. Even though their pains and concerns are different, they embrace each others as they respect that being in this world itself is the purpose and value of life comparing themselves to the beautiful and glittering stars in the infinite universe. This is another precious work by Angelina Maccarone, which finely describes the inner life of the ordinary individuals, who are undergoing the different experiences in the identical time space, through incidental images which cannot be noticed in the superficial life.
