Two adventurous women in love are desperate to have their own biological child. They take a chance on an experimental scientific process and make sperm from their own stem cells. Pregnant with humour and unexpected twists, their journey tailspins out of control when their families discover there is no father.

This is a fake documentary that originates from Succubus, a short film introduced in the Queer Rainbow last year. In Succubus, Athene and Lilith disagree on whether they should wait until stem cell research succeeds, or they should opt for sperm donation in order to have a baby. In The Baby Formula stem cell research finally succeeds and they get pregnant with their own eggs. To inform this news they plan a family party, but things start to get complicated as family members from all different walks of life mingle with each other. For a lesbian or gay couple, to have a baby means they have to confront social interventions by third parties. Sometimes it brings pain, and sometime it brings sadness. In the form of fake documentary, this film follows the issues of childbirth of lesbian couples with humors and warm heart. Thanks to the actors who are actually pregnant in real life, it is completed as an amazing work showing real emotions. This is the directorial debut of Alison Reid, who worked as a stunt director in more than 200 Hollywood films and TV series, including Saw 2 and 3, and Blindness. (Jay SOHN)
