SYNOPSIS

 Synopsis
On the surface, Chris and Gitti are lost in perfect amorous bliss during their getaway in their Sardinia vacation home. But amidst their playful romps, secret rituals and silly habits belies an underlying tension. Full of verve, the idiosyncratic Gitti is fearless in expressing her love and devotion for Chris, while Chris is more reserved in his outlook on life and sports varying personal and professional degrees of insecurity.

 Program Note
On the outside, the hero and heroine of Everyone Else, Chris and Gitti, are a perfect couple deeply in love at their resort in Sardinia. However, intangible tension lurks out in their idle and mischievous playfulness. Vibrant and flamboyant Gitti never refrains herself from expressing her love to her man Chris, on the other hand, he is not fond of changes due to the anxiety caused by private and professional issues. As they encounter another couple that seem obviously happier, more ideal and successful with modern sex role attitude, their insecurity surfaces. The film follows the discrepant desire of the subtly humorous and incredibly timid couple in search of their identities through the path of desire, secret and a power struggle. This is an intricately detailed love story representing every generation¡¯s emotional chaos caused by constantly morphing myths and examples for love. After they find their identity as individuals and as a couple, with their brand new improved persona, will this couple at the dead end of their relationship get a second chance for happiness that everyone else has got? The director, Maren Ade, focuses on the newly created subtle and peculiar actuality when reserved people start a new relationship. This film is the winner of the Jury Grand Prix Silver Bear and Birgit Minichmayr, the lead actress, won the best actress award at the Berlin International film festival. (BYUN Jai-ran)
