SYNOPSIS

 Synopsis
Carmen is 17 years old and lives in Glod, a small gypsy village where nothing happens, somewhere in the Romanian mountains. She works daily in the shop and pub of her father, and has an admirer from the village, Christi. But Carmen dreams of a future somewhere else, somewhere she can find her ideal husband and lead a fantastic and rich life. She watches Spanish soap operas on TV and tries to learn Spanish. At the same time she loves her family dearly. She realises she has to leave behind the people she cares about to make her dream come true.

 Program Note
Carmen is a 17-year-old girl who lives in remote mountainous village, Glod in Romania. As a member of gypsy community, she mainly helps the house chores while working at her father¡¯s café and general store, otherwise might be under the official education course. She wants to do something new in something different place to be a rich, so she learns Spanish watching Spain TV shows to leave where she is. And how this little poor ¡®girl in a mountain¡¯ happens to meet Borat? Borat is the man in the Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (thereafter Borat), a fake documentary film making tens of millions of dollars hit worldwide. The real documentary Carmen Meets Borat, shows eventually that the Borat based in Kazakhstan was filmed in Carmen¡¯s village in fact. Documentary Carmen Meets Borat catches the issues between the local and the grobal interchange in the global era while arranging incidents surrounding mountain girl Carmen¡¯s daily lives and cultural product Borat with a sharp and speculated way. It focuses the aspect of the entertainment company¡¯s capital which seeks exploiting and making an intentional misrepresenting others rather than having a concern and ethics, also sells out the pre-modern factors and poverty, and international lawyers and medium which are living in the derivative income out of the capital¡¯s move. Today a girl¡¯s desire is made, broken and negotiated in between the local and the grobal interchange. This film has the power to capture these moments with delicate eyes. (KWON Eun-sun)
