SYNOPSIS

Indonesian Film Festival 2004

Synopsis
This is a story about a seven day journey of a young woman revisiting her homeland, Indonesia. The way she sees her country and society is a reflection of her present state of being. At the beginning of the movie, she presents the question ¡°Do you know what the form of the world is?¡±

Program Note
It¡¯s Almost There is an experimental film of Ariani Darmawan, the most noticeable independent short film director in Indonesia. A middle class woman visits her home country Indonesia and spends 7 days. At the beginning, she asks a question ¡®Do you know what this world is like?¡¯ and this question accompanies her throughout the film. As the Christian god created the world in 7 days, she tries to create the image of her country in 7 days. While her house representing the middle class of Indonesia looks dull and boring, the night market is full of colorful vitality. However, she feels she belongs nowhere and the world is meaningless. Indonesia, with various social classes, ethnic groups and religions, is out of reach just by one inch. The national anthem plays at the last scene, which seems to be the metaphor of the Indonesia¡¯s national image that is touchable only through the abstract song. (CHO Hye-young)
