SYNOPSIS

Audience Award / Jakarta International Film Festival 2009
Best Original Screenplay / Indonesian Film Festival 2009

 Synopsis
Cina, an 18 year-old college freshman, was ready to conquer the Pre world with a strong, yet naive, faith since it had never been tested by failure. Annisa, is a 24 year-old college senior whose education was held back because of her career in the movie industry. Her fame and beauty left her so lonely that she drew a sad face on her finger as her companion. One day, another ¡®finger¡¯ came and she was no longer lonely.

Program Note
The original title ¡®cin(T)a¡¯ means several things. Not only does it mean China but it is also the name of the leading man in this film. ¡®Cinta¡¯ also means love in Indonesian. Meanwhile, (T) means God. We all act like we know who God is and we all speak for God. But nothing can define God explicitly. God appears in too many different ways. Cina, a Chinese Christian, and Annisa, a Malaysian Muslim, both love God dearly. However, these two cannot be in love with each other since they call God by different names. Cina is an outgoing and optimistic freshman, while Annisa is an actress and aspiring film director whose fame and beauty left her lonely. They overcome the gap between each other and fall in love despite the differences in personality and background. However, they can¡¯t overcome the difference in faith. Formerly an architect, Sammaria Aimanjuntak has debuted as a film director with the help of her friends. cin(T)a is made from the pure passion of young filmmaker and it shows the latent energy of the Indonesian Independent film. It¡¯s got not only the rawness and passion of the indie film but also the fast-paced and stylish music video-esque quality. Thanks to the immaculate execution of the director, ethno-religious conflict in a multicultural society like Indonesia is smoothly integrated into a love story. Racial, religious and cultural collisions tear the world of two lovebirds apart. (CHO Hye-young)
