 Synopsis
A desperate love story between two young girls of extremely different social backgrounds who, unable to find a place for their love in the world they live in, are pushed to commit a crime.

 Program Note
Is the escape to Buenos Aires that Lala and Eillin are dreaming of one of elopement or an attempt to run away from reality? Lala is a teenage girl with a rich judge for a father who falls head over heels for Eillin, a girl from Paraguay who has been working as a maid in their house since she was thirteen. The two girls sell off household items one by one to save money to run off to Eillin’s house by the lake in Paraguay, but their long-awaited and risky plan falls through right before they are about to go through with it. The plan is destroyed by despair, an impulsive sense of betrayal, and revenge, but Lala’s love for Eillin is bordering on obsession and she cannot give her up. The more Lala wants Eillin, the more deep dark truths she uncovers, yet she cannot stop her love for Eillin. The surface of the film seems to be about Lala’s innocent and passionate love for Eillin as well as a journey of yearning for freedom. As the layers of this mystery thriller that moves freely through fantasy and realism are uncovered one by one, it reveals its inner flesh willingly. This film is a serious romance that would tug at the heartstrings of many lesbians, but is more a harsh report on the huge gap between the rich and the poor, social inequality, the constant sexual exploitation of girls of lower classes, and the totally corrupt politics that encourage such actions in South America presented by Argentinian director Lucía Puenzo’s.
