 Synopsis
In a dressing room preparing for the first performance of Autumn Sonata, an adapted play from the established director Ingmar BERGMAN’s film, Gwang-deok, in the role of Eva, is increasingly getting nervous as she is worried about the stage and her mother is constantly calling to consult the family matter. Gwang-deok tries to focus on her role but her lines get overlapped with that of reality. Eventually she panics and explodes her emotions.

 Program Note
It is the dressing room before the first performance of Autumn Sonata based on a film with the same title by Ingmar BERGMAN. Gwang-deok, who plays the part of Eva, is tense and uneasy due to the pressure of the first performance, a phone call from her mother that she does not get along with, and the presence of the teacher who plays the role of Charlotte. Reality in the play and the actual situations overlap to push Gwang-deok’s emotions to the extreme. This is a psychological comingof-age film of the situation about an actress’ experiences in the dressing room, a liminal and transitional space between the real and a fictional world for the actress. Liminal spaces, such as the dressing room, the restroom and the corridor, the reflections in a mirror, and the flickering of lights obscure the line between reality and theater to capture the panic-stricken actress’s psychology. The film radiates authenticity of director CHOO Sang-mee, who has actually previously played the part of Eva in Autumn Sonata. (CHO Hye-young)
