SYNOPSIS

 Synopsis
Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten-year old girl, is taken with her parents by the French police as they go door-to-door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night. Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard and promises to come back for him as soon as they are released. Sixty seven years later: Sarah¡¯s story intertwines with that of Julia, an American journalist investigating the roundup.

 Program Note
Paris, July 1942. French police break into a peaceful apartment and arrest a Jewish family. A ten year old girl Sarah is desperate to protect her younger brother and locks him in a bedroom cupboard. She promises to come back as soon as possible before she is taken to a concentration camp with her family. 67 years later, Sarah¡¯s story intertwines with that of Julia, an American journalist investigating the Vel d¡¯Hive roundup by Vichy government. And this trail of secrets that link her to Sarah starts to shake her and her family.
Sarah¡¯s Key talks about the Holocaust in France during the World War II by intertwining the stories of Sarah and Julia and thus reveals how the personal stories in history link to the present. Julia comprehends Sarah¡¯s painful memory and treats her as an independent individual, not as a mere number in the stats of Holocaust victims. Sarah is being endowed with her own face and life story. In the meantime, Julia¡¯s family, by being told of Sarah¡¯s story, experiences changes into their lives as they bounce back and forth in between acknowledging and refusing to accept the connection. Julia eventually decides to tell it to her new born daughter ¡¯Sarah¡¯. This film will deeply touch the hearts of IWFFIS audience in the way it writes history with communication and comprehension.
