SYNOPSIS

 Synopsis
Like thousands of other children, Abouk and Machiek were taken by government sponsored militia in Sudan and used as slaves.

 Program Note
In southern Sudan, where everything was destroyed due to 20 years of civil war, 9-year-old Abouk and 15-year-old Machiek were abducted and taken as slaves. This animated documentary shows the interview with these two children after they were liberated and brings their hesitant answers, the interviewers, an interpreter, and the atmosphere around them onto the screen. With an intention to convey what the children really feel, the director doesn¡¯t edit anything and include all the gestures, dithering attitudes, and accidental sounds of cough or microphone tests and presents it to the audience untouched. The film, after all, questions what the ethical attitude means in a documentary. (CHO Hye-young)
