SYNOPSIS

The landscapes are built from flour, sugar, coffee: materials which have permanence in our culture and trade, and the echo of a colonial past.

A boat and a train, which spearheaded modern civilization, make their way through a series of landscapes. Being a stop-motion animation, the film traces the marks left by human presence using flour, coffee, and ice all of which nature is very fragile. This is a visual allegory about entropy that arises among colonial development, resource exploitation, and industrialization. The director¡¯s aesthetic and poetic reflection on the modern society is perfectly expressed through the illusion in perception of time and scale. (CHO Hye-young)
