The landscapes are built from flour, sugar, coffee: materials which have permanence in our culture and trade, and the echo of a colonial past.

A boat and a train, which spearheaded modern civilization, make their way through a series of landscapes. Being a stop-motion animation, the film traces the marks left by human presence using flour, coffee, and ice all of which nature is very fragile. This is a visual allegory about entropy that arises among colonial development, resource exploitation, and industrialization. The director’s aesthetic and poetic reflection on the modern society is perfectly expressed through the illusion in perception of time and scale. (CHO Hye-young)
