SYNOPSIS


 Synopsis
  Like always, Takashi leaves for work, and Hatsue stays home for housework. What is a bit different from ordinary every day is the inside of Hatsue¡¯s stomach¡¦. An ordinary conversation, a familiar scene, and the ordinary ¡®today¡¯ without any changes. Actually, everyday abounds with small adventures, and there may not be anything today that is like that of yesterday.

 Jumping in the Midnight and A Grannie Girl, the latest short films directed by YOKOHAMA Satoko, the most eccentric energy in today¡¯s Japanese film industry, and Chiemi and Kokkunpacho, her graduation project for Film School of Tokyo, which announced her presence to the Japanese film industry, will be shown during 2012 International Women¡¯s Film Festival in Seoul. NOZAKI Yoshimi who played the main character in the director¡¯s feature-length debut film, German+Rain (2006), plays the role of Hatsue, a housewife who seems to have a loose screw somewhere while living a life in-between delusion and reality in A Grannie Girl. The lethargic madness shown through the scene of Hatsue calling her husband Takashi out of the blues shows a realm that only the YOKOHAMA-NOZAKI duo can reach. YOKOHAMA Satoko moves towards the fantastic and surreal world even more eagerly in Jumping in the Midnight than she did in her previous works. The girl who shows the film using kinetoscope becomes ¡®cinema¡¯ itself. In Chiemi and Kokkunpacho, the traces of the little girl who does not act like a child and the affection towards Aomori that continue in the director¡¯s next feature film can be seen. These works are like gifts for the audience that has been missing YOKOHAMA, who has been absent from the screen for quite a while since Bare Essence of Life (2009). (HWANG Miyojo)

    Born in Aomori, Japan in 1978. Her graduation film Chiemi and Kokkunpacho received the Best Prize from CO2. With the grant from CO2, she directed her first feature film German+Rain(2006), which won CO2 Cineast Osaka Mayor¡¯s Award and the New Directors Award from the Directors Guild of Japan. Her directorial commercial debut film was Bare Essence of Life (2009), which is selected as one of the 10 best films of the year by the magazine Kinama Junbo. Her latest work, A Girl in the Apple Farm(2013) is projected by Hirosaki City, Japan.
