Synopsis
 Saitama, Japan, a special night class is set for high school students who have left school on account of bullying, run-ins with the law, economic difficulties, or other reasons. The camera follows a class of the students from their enrollment in 2002 through their four years to graduation in 2006. In the night school, teenagers have rediscovered themselves and got the meaning to live. [*2010 Aichi International Women\'s Film Festival]

 Program Note
 In 2002, forty students who hadn’t entered high school due to being bullied, crime, poverty, and family disorganization, entered Urawa Commercial High School’s evening class. The director OTA Naoko had filmed these students and the teacher Hirano for four years until they graduated. The film shows the school which doesn’t aim at socially minor students’ re-entering major educational system or discovering some students’ outstanding performance in entrance examination, but the school’s hope is to be a place for students to come whenever they need a place to go. However, in the era of investment effectiveness, where welfare the system is no exception, the Urawa Commercial High School’s evening class is in a crisis of closing down. (Closed in 2008) The materials like outcasts’ evening class, a passionate teacher, crisis of closing and touching graduation are all dramatic elements which might be welcomed to a school life manga or TV shows, but the film A School that Was Learning in the Moonlight calmly and plainly observes the students and the teacher. Sometimes, kids can’t control their anger and lose their temper and even try to harm themselves but the film never shows it in a dramatic way. Nevertheless, the relationship between the kids and the teacher and the changes that occur among the students move us deeply. (HWANG Miyojo)
