Synopsis
 Award winning actress Glenn Close plays a woman caught in an unusual love triangle. Passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland, some thirty years after donning men’s clothing, she finds herself lost in a prison of her own making.

 There is a secret to the petite and quiet Albert NOBBS who chooses his words carefully, working in a small hotel in Dublin, Ireland. Albert is actually a woman who has been living the most of her life as a man after dressing up as one at a young age in order to make a living. However, she has not given much thought to her life as a woman or her life as a man. As her secret is accidentally revealed to Hubert and Hubert’s secret is revealed to her, Albert’s life fills with will, curiosity and hope that did not exist in her before. Albert has been living her entire life, erasing herself, and in the last minutes of her life, the brief and powerful moments of emotional peaks that she overcame are expressed in detail. The scene of Albert and Hubert remembering Helen at a beach, which comprehensively expresses the queerness in their lives and its sincerity, is powerfully touching. Glen CLOSE, who played the role of Albert Nobbs 30 years ago in a play by the same name, spent many years trying to make this story into a film, taking a part in writing the scenario and in searching for the director. There may have been people who anticipated a more wild and campy version of ‘Albert Nobbs’, but the sober, shy and sincere version by Glen CLOSE – Rodrigo GARCIA is beautiful as well. (HWANG Miyojo)
