SynopsisCivil war ravages Irina’s country. Soldiers burst into her family’s house, kill her relatives and rape Irina. Traumatised, Irina flees to Berlin where she works illegally as a prostitute.  Director Doris DÖRRIE, who had explored various themes in our daily lives, is back with a topic that includes a rather extensive discussion. This film dramatizes a short story with the same title in the 2009 volume of stories based on fact about Ferdinand von SCHIRACH, a lawyer specializing in criminal law, and his 11 criminal clients. Irina flees her country ravaged by civil war and goes to Berlin, where she works illegally as a prostitute. Kalle is an unemployed punk from Berlin, who lives on the street, defying the authorities every day. Through the encounter of a foreign woman and a homeless man, who is an outsider in his own country, director Doris DÖRRIE attempts to weigh the possibility of a relationship.
 From a romance film, the movie transforms into an ironical slasher comedy, and finally a melodrama, as Irina and Kalle unexpectedly find themselves in the middle of a crime. Instead of being smoothly connected, the cinematic emotions, such as hope and despair, anger and brutality, abruptly jump out and make the audience laugh, cry, and be surprised at unexpected moments. Doris DÖRRIE’s camera has cast a warm gaze towards the mankind, and, through this film in 2012, she seems to grasp the possibilities of a relationship and happiness consoling the audience in this world of despair.
