Little Emmy kisses a girl on the playground and is left feeling isolated and alone. The Grand High Council of Fairy Tale Rules and Standards led by Bernard sends her a hetero-normative fairytale to set her down the \'right\' path in life. With the help of fairy godmother and rogue fairytale narrator Hammond, Emmy searches for herself amidst this musical fairytale.

The Grand High Council and Fairy Tale Rules and Standards of Fantasyland is busy creating fairy talks. One day the fairies on the council decide to send a hetero-normative fairy tale to Emmy, a ten-year-old who has kissed another little girl in order to set her down the ‘right’ path in life. However, when fairy Hammond revolts against this, Fantasyland falls into turmoil. A delightful parable, The Maiden and the Princess wittily reveals the way that fairy tales focusing on rigid gender roles and heterosexual romance define children’s identities only in terms of fixed stereotypes.
