SYNOPSIS

Synopsis
Seok-ko is an ordinary math teacher unlike his previous fame as a promising genius. One day, he finds that Hwa-sun who lives next door to him, accidentally kills her ex-husband. Having secretly observed her, Seok-ko plans a perfect alibi for her and she is getting excluded from the list of suspects. However, Min-beom, a detective on this case, persistently pursues her..

Program Note
A high school math teacher and genius mathematician, Suk-go finds out that his next door neighbor Hwa-sun, a woman he secretly loves, has accidently murdered her abusive ex-husband. After stopping Hwa-sin from going to the police, Suk-go plans a perfect alibi for her. Although detective Min-bum is convinced that Hwa-sun is the murderer and proceeds with the investigation, she passes the lie detector test and evidence that supports her alibi is gradually discovered.
Director PANG Eun-jin¡¯s Perfect Number is an adaptation of HIGASHINO Keigo¡¯s novel The Devotion of Suspect X from his Galileo series, which features physicist YUKAWA Manabu as an amateur detective. Unlike the original, which is a detective story mainly focused on the brilliant detective¡¯s skill at solving the impossible alibi of a genius mathematician, the film wipes out the character of the talented detective and instead highlights the elements of melodrama. The mystery in the original is replaced by new issues such as the concern for women and children exposed to domestic violence and the character of the mathematician who is prepared to risk everything he has for the woman he loves. It is worth noting that actor RYOO Seung-bum, playing the introvert genius mathematician, sheds his previous image and takes on a new challenge to transform himself. [LEE Young-soo/Djuna]
