Program Note
SONG Fang, who won the Grand Prize in the Asian Short Film & Video Competition at the 11th IWFFIS for Goodbye , presents her impressive debut film. SONG Fang, who makes films in Beijing, visits her parents in Nanjing. She makes agreeable conversation with them, and sometimes they lapse into silence in their own spaces. Her older brother and his wife visit them, and she sees her old friends. They share stories of the past and of the present, sometimes true and sometimes fictional.
In the film, SONG Fang, the director, plays as herself, and her parents, brother, and friends all play as themselves. The film beautifully captures intimate moments between family members and old friends, and sometimes awkward silences, while revealing its insight on the media of film and time. [HWANG Miyojo]
