Romance Aging Queer

Two girls at the same school fell in love with each other and their love has lasted for forty years. They couldn’t express their love to the world but they have lived a happy life. One day, however, a sudden death strikes their relationship.

Fondly taking care of each other, Young-hee
and Sun-junghave shared their lives. One day, Sun-jung is diagnosed with lung
cancer and her condition gets worse as each day passes. Sun-jung’s family
doesn’t approve of Young-hee and bans her from visiting her life companion at
the hospital. And the house where Young-hee has lived with Sun-jung falls into
the hands of Sun-jung’s brother. Young-hee’s has lost everything and her last
choice seems fair to her. And yet the harsh reality she’s facing makes us feel
frustrated and deeply sad. Panning out how the couple fell in love with each
other at first sight, the final scene of the film leads the audience to
remember their committed and long-term passionate love. This short story
touches our heart and raises our awareness that Korea must provide legal
recognition to same sex couples just as many other countries do. [KIM Ji-yeon]
