SYNOPSIS
At the Square, everyone fought against the corruption of President PARK Geun-hye. Feminists had the additional burden to fight against misogyny in the Square.
 

PROGRAM NOTE

 It is one of the short films made as a part of an omnibus activist project called ///Square// that calls for the resignation of President PARK Geun-hye. A number of feminist organizations have actively participated in the candlelight protests in Gwanghwamun Square. This film focuses on featuring interviews to articulate how feminists have experienced and understood a series of incidents including the Sewol Ferry Disaster and the Gangnam Murder Case under the PARK¡¯s administration. It reflects women¡¯s history written from a feminist perspective that does not forget to include the feminists during the rallies as ¡°citizens¡± who dared to subvert society and history.     KANGYU Garam co-founded the Alternative Cultural Club, Girls Play Girls. She was the assistant director and film distributor for the feature documentary The Girl Princes. The director was awarded the Best Korean Documentary Award for her film My Father¡¯s House at the 3rd DMZ International Documentary FF. In 2013, she collaborated with female documentary filmmakers for the feature documentary Let¡¯s Dance. She also completed Itaewon, a feature documentary about the lives of women having lived in a U.S. military town and their experiences, in 2016.
