International Competition

Best Film  Take Me Somewhere Nice Ena SENDIJAREVIĆ
Best Director  Summer Survivors Marija KAVTARADZE
Special Jury Prize  Hormigas Antonella SUDASASSI

Best Film
In her first feature film, Take Me Somewhere Nice, director Ena SENDIJAREVIC traces the journey of young Alma from the Netherlands to her native Bosnia to visit her dying father. With deft and carefully crafted visual storytelling, Sendijarevic creates a stylized, self-contained world. The jury was impressed by the film's vision of that world in which Alma seeks a place, and its sure and moving exploration of her identity in that world.

Korean Competition

Best Korean Film  Us, Day by Day KANGYU Garam

The jury met yesterday to discuss what was a very difficult decision. The program of Korean feature films, both fiction and documentary, this year was very strong and caused some considerable and rich debate amongst the jury members. We considered the films against informal criteria that focused on how each film embodied and presented women's voices, as well as against this year's festival theme of '20+1, Faces Breaking Down the Walls'. And while each film did this in one way or another, we have selected a film that encompasses this idea in an impactful way. (Sian MITCHELL)

Best Korean Film
The jury selected Us, Day By Day for the Best Korean Film Award. This is a well-crafted documentary that interweaves the present-day stories of the 1990s 'Young Feminists', where they are today and their perspectives on contemporary feminism. The film illustrates how feminism is a lived experience, something that informs these women's everyday lives. The film cleverly and simply shares each of the women's stories in a way that connects them together and creates a sense of how important feminism has been in their lives. The jury felt that the film captured these women's voices and perspectives strongly.

Asian Shorts Competition

Best Film  Dots BAEKKOT Narae
Best Director  Freckles KIM Jihee
Audience Award  Dots BAEKKOT Narae

The overall quality of the motion pictures selected for the Asian shorts program this year testifies to the strength, determination, and innovative imagination of women filmmakers in the region. Reflecting outstanding contributions to the documentary and experimental as well as narrative fiction modes of expression, these films achieve the highest standards in bringing women¡¯s voices to the screen. Representing India, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Denmark, as well as Korea, the selection spans East, South, and Southeast Asia as well as the Asian diaspora, and the jury worked diligently to recognize the very best of the best that women filmmakers have to offer with the prizes we are awarding now. However, screening these films in this festival should be considered a reward in and of itself, and we commend all the filmmakers included for their inspiring work. (Gina MARCHETTI)
