An ICON of Korean Film History, PARK Nam-ok

The first female director in Korea, director PARK Nam-ok passed away this past April 9th in the U.S., at age 94. SIWFF will be screening The Widow, PARK’s only film during her lifetime and the first film made by a Korean female director, in memory of the late director. The opening film of the 1st SIWFF in 1997, The Widow will now be invited again to the SIWFF for screening; through this film, the audience will be experiencing the significance of director PARK, who forged ahead as the only female filmmaker in her country, as an icon in Korean cinematic history, in the cinematic context of the film from the director’s time.
