RE:Discover by Curation is a special section where filmmakers and experts from diverse fields are invited to act as guest curators, selecting films they wish to revisit and share with audiences.
Launched in 2023 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the SIWFF, this program began with the aim of rediscovering landmark works in women¡¯s cinema. Since then, it has evolved into an annual platform for critical reflection and dialogue. Each year, guest curators select both classic and contemporary films to be screened and reexamined through the lens of current social, cultural, narrative, and aesthetic contexts.
This year¡¯s curators are Professor Kim Joohee of Duksung Women¡¯s University¡¯s Chami Risa College of Liberal Arts—author of Lady Credit (2020) and Feminism in the Digital Age (2024)—and filmmaker Jung Jae-eun, known for Take Care of My Cat (2001), /Butterfly Sleep (2017), and Cats¡¯ Apartment (2020).
Professor Kim has chosen Byun Youngjoo¡¯s Helpless (2012) for a screening and discussion that explores the film through the lens of "financialization and women." Director Jung, meanwhile, invites audiences to experience I, You, He, She (1974), a bold and intimate early work by Belgian feminist filmmaker Chantal Akerman.
