SYNOPSIS

After her mother¡¯s death, Mona Achache discovers thousands of photos, letters and recordings, but these buried secrets make her disappearance even more of an enigma. Through the power of filmmaking and the beauty of incarnation, she brings her mother back to life to retrace her journey and find out who she really was.

Director

  • Mona ACHACHE
    A self-taught filmmaker, Mona Achache began her career as an assistant director, then as a script supervisor on fiction and documentary films. After two short films and a documentary, Le Hérisson, her first feature film loosely based on Muriel Barbery's novel L'Elégance du Hérisson, was released in 2009 in France and then in over thirty countries. Her second feature, Les Gazelles, was released in 2013. She continues her eclectic élan, writing for herself and others, and directing some twenty TV movies, unitaries, documentaries and series episodes for TF1, France 2, Arte and Netflix. Her latest film, Little Girl Blue, starring Marion Cotillard, is inspired by the life and writings of her mother, Carole Achache, and will be presented in the official selection of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
