Director's Statement
Red Nails begins when Hong, the protagonist struggling with financial hardship, brings her mother, Seo-hee, home from a nursing facility. Through this story, I wanted to address the sense of alienation and questions about care faced by unmarried women in their late 30s working in precarious jobs, as well as by other young people living in the same era as me. In addition, with the super-aged society fast approaching, I wished to speak candidly about the anxiety and loneliness that people now in their 30s and 40s feel about the future.
