Synopsis
Saying which memory is real and capturing something with a camera share a similar context—both result in the exclusion of what lies on the edges. The moment a photograph chooses to capture something, something else is left out, pushed beyond the frame. In 2024, I construct a story from beyond the edges of images taken during my childhood, and from beyond the moldy film reels of my father.
Director's Statement
What sound does God make when swallowing candy? To swallow something sweet is a blessing, and for humans, that blessing is forgetfulness. Even within forgetfulness, memory and record continue to hold hands, leading people into the next story. This is a story that weaves time shaped by lives once lived, carrying us forward. My father, an obsessive archivist, documented my growth from childhood to now. But in over 300GB of footage, certain memories will never appear. To imagine the story beyond what¡¯s visible, I return to the past—through mold—as a passage. Asking questions about the forgetfulness born in the moment God swallows candy.
