Synopsis

In the heart of the city, animals are just a cup of coffee away. But quietly, their lives are changing. In December 2023, amendments to the Wildlife Protection and Zoo Acts were passed—after a four-year grace period, exhibition animals can no longer remain here. So where should they go? Every relationship needs the right distance. What do you think is the right distance between humans and animals?

Director's Statement

With the recent amendments and enforcement of the Act on the Protection and Management of Wildlife and the Act on the Management of Zoos and Aquariums, changes have begun to take place in the lives of animals kept in urban animal cafés and small-scale zoos in Seoul. This video sheds light on the direct impact these legal revisions have on the living environments of non-human animals. Laws, as products of human consensus, quietly—yet unmistakably—reshape the landscape. In the face of this new shift, we take a step back and ask: what questions must we now raise?
