Asian Short Film & Video Competition
For this year’s Asian Short Film and Video Competition, 229 films from 14 countries including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Thailand and Sri Lanka were submitted. When compared to last year’s 209 films, not only have the number of submissions increased but the 66 films from various Asian countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, India, Lebanon and Sri Lanka have been submitted demonstrate the rising rates of foreign submissions. The general trend of this year’s line-up focuses on romance, separation and sex, or dilemmas of high school life and future choices.

The if Award is given to a new Korean filmmaker whose work is progressive and shows a new vision of women’s roles, among all the filmmakers whose work is featured in this year’s WFFIS. Trophy and cash prize of 1,000,000 won.

Women’s News Award
Intent on supporting the practices of feminism through filmmaking, the Women’s News Award is given to one of the collectives or individuals whose works are featured in the Feminist Film and Video Activism section. Trophy and cash prize of 2,000,000 won.

Documentary Ock Rang Award
As the incubator for women’s film professionals, WFFIS, in collaboration with the Ock Rang Cultural Foundation (noted for its close involvement with progressive Korean cultural activities) provides a new project to provide a stable production system for women documentary filmmakers. These works strive to develop alternative views and sensibilities toward the world and suggest a positive model of women through visual media. A maximum of 10 million won will be awarded to support more than one film project per year and will be screened at the following 9th WFFIS.
