New Currents screens recent works by female filmmakers working actively in various parts of the world, and topical works with the theme of women. Also, this section provides a view of the current and major trends in women's films worldwide. This year, 25 new films will be introduced, including 17 feature films and eight short films from various countries, including the United States, Germany, France, Austria, Türkiye, Argentina, and Australia. Especially this year, veteran female directors introduced through the previous SIWFFs are coming back. German master filmmaker Margarethe Von Trotta, who has spotlighted the history of female characters through films, meets the audience with Ingeborg Bachmann – Journey into the Desert, which portrays the life of Austria's leading female poet. Canadian actor and director Sarah Polley meets with the viewers with Women Talking, which captures sexual violence in a closed community in Bolivia and the unity of women who stand against it. Frauke Finsterwalder of Sisi & I, which looks at the relationship and era surrounding Empress Elisabeth from a new angle, and Pratibha Parmar of My Name Is Andrea, the story of Andrea Dworkin, a radical feminist writer who has critically reflected on the patriarchal society, are the welcome names. Catherine Corsini's Homecoming is about a woman who is a nanny for a wealthy Parisian family. She returns to the island of Corsica, where her family lives, and faces a past tragedy. Banel & Adama is the debut feature film of Senegalese-French director Ramata-Toulaye Sy, which tells the story of a couple who faces a love crisis due to village customs. These two were one of the most discussed works invited to compete at this year's Cannes Film Festival. In addition, Erica Tremblay's Fancy Dance, which portrays the lives of Native American women, and an Australian director duo Soda Jerk's Hello Dankness, a unique work created using ¡°sample¡± footage from various films will be screened.
