This section is where the audience can meet the winner of the latest Okrang Culture Award. It is awarded to documentaries that have received attention in Pitch&Catch, the planning and development project of SIWFF that supports and fosters female creators. This year, the work-in-process of Green Concrete, directed by Lee Sung-min, the 2022 award-winning film, will be screened.
Green Concrete is a documentary based on the story of trees remaining like green islands in concrete ruins in an apartment complex about to be reconstructed where most trees have been cut down. The documentary makes us look back on the problems of development that have continued since the modernization and industrialization of Korean society. The movie starts with records of trees that once lived on the green island, searching for ways to preserve trees and tracking where they disappear. The film will remind us of the meaning of true coexistence between humans and nature, where buildings are constantly disappearing and being rebuilt, losing their place in the changing city.
