SYNOPSIS

Hanyeong, a North Korean defector, obtained a tourist guide license in Korea by utilizing the Chinese language she learned while living in China. She is still adapting to the unfamiliar environment and trying to improve her performance in South Korea. However, her life continues to undergo constant changes amid the flow of time.

PROGRAM NOTE

North Korean defector Hanyeong became a tourist interpreter for Chinese tourists in 2015 and now works as a guide in South Korea. She dreams of being rich, but life in South Korea is not easy. Her younger brother Inhyeok, who came to South Korea first, has not been seen since. She is having difficulties contacting his coworkers. For tourists, she is their first impression of Korea, but she's always a stranger here, always on the verge. So to speak, Hanyeong¡¯s ¡°Korea¡± should always be in quotes. A Tour Guide quietly observes the orbit of Hanyeong as her environment, conditions, and even her speech slowly change over time. The news talks about the unrest caused by the THAAD crisis or the peaceful atmosphere created by the summit at Panmunjom. Still, it doesn't make much of a difference to Hanyeong, just a minor individual. However, it's the other individuals that hurt her. The countless faces Hanyeong encounters are so busy serving their purpose and role that they often miss her out. Actor Lee Sul, who plays a young woman at a crossroads once again, following On the Sand House (2023), firmly holds the film's center of gravity. [LEE Bora]
