SYNOPSIS

In a society where women's clothes are considered dirty, Sandar hangs her skirt outside the house. In response, her Burmese neighbors criticize Sandar for her improper act and her parents for not teaching their daughter right. As tensions rise within the family, Sandar makes a bid for freedom from the traditions that pin her down.

PROGRAM NOTE

This film associates the daily routine of doing laundry with the shame of women. Sandar and her mother do the laundry every day, but they are not allowed to be in the sunshine. In this society, women¡¯s underwear is considered dirty and should be hidden in the damp shade. Sandar has a conflict with her patriarchal father and her obedient mother. Amid their accusations, she washes her ¡°dirty¡± underwear and feels ashamed. When she can¡¯t stand this any longer, Sandar makes a decision. [SON Moa]
